Curling: are you going to try it?

🥌 Where you might have previously thought; this is a sport I'll never do, it's becoming increasingly popular. Curling is a sport where two teams slide their stones like crazy across an ice rink with the goal of placing the stones as close as possible to the center of a target area.

🧹 With the brooms you can influence the path of the stone. This way speed and direction can be subtly adjusted. It might seem easy, but trust us; it's harder than you think!

Why is curling hot?

How does curling work exactly?

🎳 Each lane has a circular target area, the so-called house. Teams take turns sliding stones; with the right technique one tries to get as close as possible to the center.

🧊 During the game the team determines if and when sweeping should be done. Sweeping affects the friction on the ice, making the stone glide faster or slower. Communication and timing are extremely important: the right moment can make the difference between scoring or sliding just too far.
