What will you learn?

(Data Analytics) In the AD Data Analytics program, you learn how to transform data into valuable insights for businesses and organizations. You develop skills in collecting, analyzing, and visualizing data using tools like Python, R, SQL, Tableau, and Power BI. The program combines statistics, programming, and business studies, where you learn to perform data analyses, build dashboards, and write reports that help managers with decision-making. Practice-oriented projects with real business data are central, where you work on cases such as customer segmentation, predictive analyses, and optimizing business processes. In the second year, you complete an internship at a company where you directly contribute to data-driven projects. This AD distinguishes itself from a full HBO bachelor's degree through its strong focus on practical applications and direct employability in the job market. The program is ideal for analytically minded students who enjoy working with numbers and solving concrete problems, without the extensive theoretical depth of a four-year program.

Required Education

For admission to the AD Data Analytics program, you need at least an MBO level 4 diploma in a relevant field such as ICT, business administration, or a technical program, or a HAVO or VWO diploma. The Economics & Society (E&M) or Science & Technology (N&T) profile fits best with this program, because E&M prepares you for economic aspects and business processes that you analyze, while N&T provides the mathematical and technical foundation for statistical analyses and programming. Specifically, mathematics A or B is required at HAVO/VWO level, because you work extensively with statistics and algorithms. English is also important due to international software tools and documentation. Some universities of applied sciences require a motivation letter in which you explain why you are interested in data analysis. For students without the right preliminary education, deficiency courses are available, for example for mathematics, or you can enter through a bridging program after an MBO program in a different field.

Career Prospects

After completing the AD Data Analytics program, you can immediately start working as a Junior Data Analyst, Business Intelligence Analyst, Data Visualization Specialist, or Reporting Analyst at companies in sectors such as retail, healthcare, financial services, logistics, and marketing. Organizations like Coolblue, ING, Albert Heijn, hospitals, and consultancy firms actively seek data professionals at this level. The starting salary ranges between €2,400 and €3,200 per month, depending on the sector and region. Career advancement opportunities are excellent: you can advance to positions such as Senior Data Analyst, Data Scientist, or Business Intelligence Consultant, or develop your own specialization in sectors like healthcare analytics or marketing intelligence. Additionally, you can use your AD diploma to continue to the third year of an HBO bachelor's program such as Business Administration, Business IT & Management, or a full Data Science program, opening up even more career opportunities.

Impact of AI on this program

AI is fundamentally transforming AD Data Analytics. Programming is shifting toward AI-supported development with tools like GitHub Copilot. Students must learn to collaborate with AI, master prompt engineering, and focus on complex problem-solving that AI cannot automate. The demand for IT professionals remains high, but the work is changing dramatically.
